Even cooler is that the senior team behind Paramount Animation is largely made up of women, which feels appropriately fierce and feminist given the Spice Girls' longtime message of girl power.
Interestingly, the report says that the animated feature will include classic Spice Girls tracks "as well as new songs", although it was not confirmed whether the new tracks will be sung by the Spice Girls or other characters in the movie.
The film is in early development and will be part of Paramount's fast-moving slate of animated films, of which two will be released every year, starting in 2020. "They are very involved".
Music mogul Simon Fuller is set to produce the film, which will be written by Karen McCullah and Kiwi Smith, the writers behind "Legally Blonde" and "10 Things I Hate About You". A director has not yet been announced.
A rep for the Spice Girls did not respond to EW's request for comment.
