Philippe Coutinho claims he performed poorly during 2018-19 campaign at Barcelona

Brazil celebrate

Brazil completed their warm-up campaign for next week's home Copa America with a comfortable win over Honduras

Coutinho managed just eight goals and five assists across 46 combined La Liga and Champions League outings during 2018/19, leading to reports linking him with a return to the Premier League and the player coming under fire from sections of Barca's fanbase.

Silva wants Coutinho to feel valued and comfortable in the team.

"Like I said, I haven't had a great season".

Brazil expect to win every tournament they play, especially at home, but they go into next week's Copa America without their talisman Neymar and lacking some of the sparkle that has always been their stock in trade. The little Brazilian consistently improved to become a star at Anfield before opting to leave for Barcelona.

And Liverpool chief Tom Werner believes Coutinho "probably regrets" his decision to dump the Kop side 18 months ago.

"I'm very happy talking about him, we're very close".

"The only way to improve and gain confidence is through hard work, and I have been working hard".

After just one full season at the Nou Camp, the 27-year-old playmaker is linked with a move away from the club.

The Barcelona playmaker, who is nearly nailed on to leave the club this summer, has recognised that he has not had the best of campaigns.

He was not impressive against his former club Liverpool when they met in the Champions League semifinal second leg encounter which the Reds won 4-0.

The difficulties saw Coutinho lose his place to Ousmane Dembele, but even when restored by Dembele's injuries, his struggles left him the vocal target of criticism from supporters, especially following Barcelona's elimination by his former club Liverpool in the Champions League semi-finals.
