While at the PPG Paints Arena in the hometown of Mac Miller, Ariana became visibly emotional on stage talking about her late ex-boyfriend, who passed away in September of previous year. When Ariana Grande sang those words at her concert last night she broke down on stage and couldn't continue singing the rest of the lyrics.
Before the show began, it was clear the evening would be in honour of the late rapper, real name Malcolm McCormick, as several of his biggest hits played over the speakers in the venue as fans took to their seats. Grande and Miller dated from 2016 to spring 2018, before Miller's death from an accidental overdose last September. As you can see in the video above, Grande was overcome with emotion singing "Wish I could say thank you to Malcolm / Cuz he was an angel". The audience rallied behind the pop star, belting out the song in her place as she composed herself on stage with the help of her dancers.
Grande usually closes her shows with "Thank U, Next", a glistening anthem about self-love and moving on.
"Although the two ended their relationship, Ariana always shared a deep connection with Mac and wanted nothing but the best for him", the source said at the time. Ariana Grande paid tribute to Mac Miller. "Ariana is very upset".
