Unai Emery says Kylian Mbappe wanted to join Real Madrid last year

Mbappe's name has been on the lips of many in recent days, after he was crowned both the Ligue 1 Player of the Season and the Ligue 1 Young Player of the Season.

Former Paris Saint-Germain head coach Unai Emery said Kylian Mbappe wanted to join Real Madrid before the French giants eventually persuaded the forward to stay.

Do you think this drama could lead to Mbappe forcing a move away from PSG?

Mbappe, on the other hand, won the domestic league yet again with PSG and was named Ligue 1 Player of the Year for 2018/19.

"Among everybody we convinced him about the project in France and made him stay".

"I wanted to choose Real Madrid and even had the option of Barcelona, I kept my eyes closed to Madrid but we all managed to convince him in Paris that it was a French project".

"A highly-anticipated moment in which we can all come together to write a new, great page in the club's history where each individual must play a role geared towards the collective (goals)". We had to set money over the table, and that's what we did'.

With Real Madrid leading the long list of clubs hoping to sign the Frenchman, who arrived at PSG in the summer of 2017 on loan from Monaco and then the move was made permanent for a fee of $210 million.

However, Champions League success still eludes the club, as they were knocked out of the tournament by Manchester United in the last 16 stage this season.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Kylian Mbappe has revealed his future does not lie with PSG during French football awards suggesting he might be moving on during the summer window.

But PSG haven't resigned themselves to losing Mbappe yet and quickly released a statement in response to the player's remarks.
