AEW, TNT Officially Announce TV Deal

AEW lands prime-time television deal and WWE has competition

TNT will air live AEW matches weekly in prime time starting later this year, as well as streaming them on B/R Live and on pay-per-view.

Added AEW president and CEO Tony Khan: "Wrestling fans have wanted - and needed - something different, authentic and better for far too long". "AEW is answering the call". The network has not hosted professional wrestling since the end of the Monday Night Wars, making this new deal even more significant in the minds of a whole lot of fans.

TNT, originally shorthand for Turner Network Television, was of course home to WCW Monday Nitro from 1995 until 2001 when World Championship Wrestling was bought out by Vince McMahon's WWE.

Michael Quigley, EVP of commercial operations, content strategy and monetization at TNT and TBS, described AEW as a "talent-forward, fan-first league" with an "inclusive approach". "It is high-adrenaline, gripping entertainment and we can't wait to bring it to fans everywhere with this game-changing new business". The press release also noted that AEW would be incorporating statistics into a wrestling show for the first time ever.

"AEW was launched in January and has a roster filled with some of wrestling's top performers, including Chris Jericho, Kenny Omega, Cody, the Young Bucks (Matt and Nick Jackson), Hangman" Page, Brandi Rhodes and SoCal Uncensored (Christopher Daniels, Frankie Kazarian and Scorpio Sky). "AEW is poised globally to redefine wrestling as we know it today".

Since the company was launched, AEW officials have talked about providing a sport-based product and being an alternative to WWE. "Wrestlers will also be given more freedom to explore their characters and highlight their athletic abilities".

Specifics, such as the show's name, starting date, and runtime have yet to be revealed. Make sure to come back to GameSpot on Saturday, May 25 for a live review and coverage of AEW's Double or Nothing, as long as it's available to stream. Financial terms of that agreement were not disclosed, but considering the program is three hours, it is expected that they are similar to the Fox deal.
