It captured the attention of the country, and he'll be rewarded with a Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Tiger Woods' comeback will ring through the ages.
Trump himself awarded the Medal of Freedom to Babe Ruth, Alan Page, and Roger Staubach just past year, and Barack Obama awarded it to Michael Jordan, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Willie Mays, among others, during his presidency.
Trump didn't indicate when he'll present the medal to Woods. They've played golf together several times, including at least three outings since Trump's election in 2016. His career was derailed for almost a decade after a series of personal scandals and several back surgeries that raised doubts about whether he would ever be able to play again.
According to the executive order designating the award, the Presidential Medal of Freedom is given "to individuals who have made especially meritorious contributions to the security or national interests of the United States, to world peace, or to cultural or other significant public or private endeavors".
Trump has previously awarded the medal posthumously to Elvis Presley and Babe Ruth.
Former President Barack Obama also congratulated the athlete. He watched the Masters from his Virginia golf club on Sunday.
