NBA Playoff Previews Boston Celtics vs. Indiana Pacers

Sunday, we'll start with the Pacers-Celtics series opener.

Turnover killed the Celtics in the first half. The Indiana Pacers are averaging 74 points on 33.3 percent shooting and allowing 84 points on 36.4 percent shooting.

Celtics coach Brad Stevens and Pacers coach Nate McMillan both said before the series that the more physical team would have the edge.

In the third, however, two things happened that allowed the Celtics to take control of the game completely: Kyrie Irving woke up, and IN went icy cold from the floor. Morris also spotted the Celtics some early points when nobody else could buy a bucket, shooting 9 of the team's 12 total first-half free throws.

IN made just one more basket in the quarter - a layup by Doug McDermott - and finished the period with just eight points, getting outscored 26-8. During that span, Boston's starters shot 3 for 7 from the field and turned the ball over four times. The Pacers just don't have enough consistent offense to be much of a threat in this series.

"We'll you figured they'll make adjustments", Pacers guard Darren Collison said. "I got a couple of bigs guarding me, so I'm just trying to space the floor and read their closeouts [and] trying to let the game come to me".

The Pacers have been impressive without Victor Oladipo, with Bojan Bogdanovic picking up a lot of the scoring and creation load and Myles Turner developing into a fringe Defensive Player of the Year candidate. The over is 4-1 in Celtics last 5 overall.

The Pacers were never got the deficit under double digits in the fourth quarter. Before you make any Pacers vs. Celtics picks, listen to what the SportsLine Projection Model has to say. Boston got the first basket of the second quarter - a nifty euro-step finish in transition by Gordon Hayward - but in rattled off nine consecutive points and carried that lead into the break thanks in part to Boston's 32.5 percent shooting from the floor, 23.5 percent shooting from three and 10 turnovers, which led to 11 points.

The Celtics' 84 points were their fewest of the season and marked the first time they scored fewer than 100 points and won. Boston outscored IN 26-8 IN the period.
