Arsenal's hopes of appointing Monchi as their new technical director has hit a snag as Sevilla president Josa Castro confirmed they are in advanced talks with him.

The dismissal of head coach Pablo Machin has seen director of football Joaquin Caparros take charge of the first team, and Sevilla president Jose Castro confirmed on Friday that the club had spoken with Monchi about the vacant position.

On March 9th, Marca reported the pair would not have any problem to work together again and the north London club have made a "good offer" for the sporting director.

The 50-year-old, who gained a formidable reputation at Sevilla, where he worked alongside Arsenal manager Unai Emery for three years, is available after stepping down from his role at Roma earlier this month. Our conversations go very well with him.

Monchi could return to the club he left in April 2017, bringing an end to a 17-year period where Sevilla won 11 trophies. "The conversations have been very positive". He also sold the former youth players Sergio Ramos, José Antonio Reyes and Jesús Navas for nearly €75m.

Sven Mislintat left his role as Arsenal's head of recruitment in February, meanwhile, and Monchi has been strongly linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium over the last few weeks.
