Christchurch/Wellington: The main suspect in mass shootings at two New Zealand mosques was charged with one count of murder on Saturday, a day after the attack that killed 49 people and wounded dozens, prompting the prime minister to vow reform of the country's gun laws.
Law enforcement officials in other cities across the country, including NY and Los Angeles, have also said they are increasing security forces at mosques in response to the shooting.
Two other people remain in custody.

Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, one of the first two Muslim women to serve in Congress, said on Friday that "love trumps hate" and urged solidarity with Muslims in the wake of a deadly terror attack at two mosques in New Zealand. An eyewitness told Radio New Zealand that he heard shots fired and four people were lying on the ground, with "blood everywhere". In Scotland, the shooting of 16 students and a teacher in March 1996 prompted the banning of private ownership of handguns in the United Kingdom, and after the Port Arthur massacre where 35 people were killed in a series of shootings, Austrailia enacted widespread tightening of gun laws.
In the video, the killer spends more than two minutes inside the mosque spraying terrified worshippers with gunfire.

He said he and others escaped by breaking through a glass door.
"An expert testified before parliament in 2016 that it was only a matter of time before a mass shooting occurred in New Zealand", he told SBS News.

A now-deleted Twitter account that is believed to be linked to the accused shooter shows what appears to be three assault-rifle magazines, one of which has Bissonnette's name on it. He also had more assault weapons in the trunk of his vehicle, along with what appeared to be explosives.
He said he was a 28-year-old white Australian and a racist.
She confirmed that the gunman and two suspected associates who were also arrested had not been on the radar of any intelligence agencies, even though he had published a manifesto online indicating plans for attacks on Muslims.
From what we know, it does appear to have been well planned.
Ardern said New Zealand had been placed on its highest security threat level.
Radio New Zealand said an eyewitness saw a man wearing a helmet and glasses and a military style jacket open fire inside one of the mosques.
Christchurch is home to almost 400,000 people and is sometimes called the Garden City.
At least 49 people were killed and more were injured.
