Pelicans lose Davis, beat Thunder 131-122

Davis was on the floor for the final play of the first half, where he jumped into fellow former Kentucky alum Nerlens Noel with 0.4 seconds left to play in the first half, committing a shooting foul. If the Association if forcing the Pelicans to play Davis why then didn't they do the same thing with the Grizzlies (Chandler Parsons), the Rockets (Carmelo Anthony) or the Cavaliers (JR Smith)?

When asked his thoughts on Davis leaving, Gentry said, "I'm happy for the guys that played the game and we won".

Davis had 14 points and four rebounds in the first half on Thursday but it was Julius Randle and Jrue Holiday that carried the team to victory.

The Pelicans twice led by 13 while Westbrook was resting early in the fourth quarter, but shortly after he returned, he had two baskets and two assists to help the Thunder get within 117-113 with five minutes remaining. George was 3 of 17 from 3-point range and Westbrook 4 for 12. Unfortunately, OKC came up just a bit short following a lapse to start the third quarter which allowed the Pelicans to gain enough of a lead to take the match.

But the Pelicans didn't fold thanks to Randle, who responded by tipping in Kenrich Williams' missed 3-pointer, then added a layup with 1:30 to go and an 8-foot fall-away with 1:12 left. He was the only other Thunder player besides Westbrook and George to score as many as 10 points.

Westbrook had nine points and two assists as Oklahoma City cut the deficit to 101-89 at the end of the third quarter.

The Pelicans pushed the pace from the outset, and the game was tied at 31 after the first quarter. Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry said before tip-off that guard Elfrid Payton is expected to return from a right ankle sprain after the All-Star break.
