Woman found in suitcase: Arrest made in case of woman found dead and bound in suitcase

The 24-year-old was found in a suitcase last week on the Port Chester/Connecticut border.

Valerie Reyes was found dead inside a suitcase.

"We are, of course, devastated for my daughter's death, but I'm just blessed beyond grateful that they found her murderer", Sanchez told CBS.

Police in New Rochelle, NY have announced that Valerie Reyes' ex-boyfriend Javier da Silva has been arrested in connection with her death.

They said he indicated he put packing tape over her mouth, bound her legs and hands, and put her in a suitcase that he put in a forest after driving for some time.

The arrest of da Silva may not come as a surprise to law enforcement experts who have predicted that Reyes' killer was known to her.

Reyes had been reported missing on January 30 when she did not show up for work at a bookstore.

Valerie Reyes' mother, Norma Sanchez, grieves for her daughter during a candlelight vigil in NY. "I was praying her family would have her back", said Brenda DeGiacomo.

"We are confident that the pursuit of justice for Valerie will be successful and we continue to work with the family to provide closure to this tragedy", Greenwich police Capt. Robert Berry said in a written statement. He was the victim's ex-boyfriend and was arrested in Queens.

Police say they have examined hundreds of hours of surveillance footage in the case and interviewed several potential witnesses.

Reyes' mother, Norma Sanchez, said her daughter - who reportedly battled depression and anxiety - became paranoid shortly before disappearing.

Her ex-boyfriend had just moved out, the Journal News reported.

In a press conference on Tuesday Greenwich Police said that de Silva confessed to playing a role in the murder when he was questioned following his arrest.

Reyes, a Barnes & Noble store clerk, had broken up with her boyfriend five days earlier, according to Sanchez.

'I'm anxious someone is going to murder me, ' Reyes then allegedly blurted out. She said that her daughter feared that she would be murdered.

"I asked her why do you feel this way?"

"At this unimaginably hard time, we are asking for love, support and respect to our family for the loss of my handsome daughter Valerie Reyes who is now resting in heaven", he said.

New Rochelle is about 12 miles south of Greenwich.
