Game Of Thrones Spin-Off Prequel Will Shoot This Summer

Game of Thrones prequel gets a start of production date

We Finally Know Exactly How Long The Final Season Of Game Of Thrones Will Be

According to EW, while only one episode has been ordered so far, the writers are already working on more scripts for future episodes in the event that HBO decides to pick it up to become a series.

HBO has released the first official photos from Game of Thrones Season 8, and naturally, they don't reveal much about the hotly-anticipated final episodes. The series takes "place thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones" and "chronicles the world's descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. And only one thing is for sure: from the horrifying secrets of Westeros's history to the true origin of the white walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend... it's not the story we think we know".

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, HBO's programming president Casey Bloys confirmed the early summer production date - which will likely follow directly after Game Of Thrones season eight airs its finale. Naomi Watts and Josh Whitehouse have been cast in the prequel series.

But if you're expecting this to be a retread of its parent series, think again. "Westeros is a very different place", George R.R. Martin recently described.

The prequel is set to be an entirely different beast than HBO's hit show, with no Iron Throne, no Targaryens, and yes, no dragons. "There's no King's Landing. We're dealing with a different and older world and hopefully that will be part of the fun of the series".
