Highland County Health Commissioner Jared Warner previously said the illness tends to peak between the months of December and February.
WLWT-TV reports that the Ohio Department of Health confirmed Tuesday that the boy was 3 years of age and his death is under investigation. The state also reported six child deaths related to the flu a year ago.
The organization reported that it's now widespread throughout the state. Of those cases, 302 were reported last week.
"If you suspect that you have the flu, you shouldn't run into your doctor's office because you may spread the disease", Raheja said.
"It's not too late to get a flu shot".
According to the state health department, the number of flu-associated hospitalizations reported in OH so far this flu season is tracking below the five-year average.
