Liverpool defensive crisis eased by Joel Matip return to full training

Liverpool suffer huge pre-Brighton injury blow

Jurgen Klopp provides Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren updates amid injury crisis

Liverpool suffered its first league defeat against Manchester City before most recently losing to Wolves in the third round of the FA Cup. Joe Gomez is missing until February due to a leg fracture sustained at Burnley last month.

Joel Matip is back in training after undergoing shoulder surgery on a broken collarbone sustained vs Napoli in December.

Liverpool will visit Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday at Amex Stadium in their Premier League Round 22 game.

Klopp has insisted his team has the quality to deal with these kind of problems. "Now we have to make the best of the time we have and get as many points as possible".

He said: I saw them as two separate (Man City and Wolves).

"Let's play football. Nothing else".

"There's no advantage. You can do a lot of wrong things when you have a week to train".

Fabinho is likely to plug the gap next to Virgil van Dijk in the mean time.

"So the owners want the Premier League and Champions League clearly".

"If Fabinho has to play as a CB, we work on that on the training pitch".

Jurgen Klopp is expected to make a number of changes from defeat at Molineux, with the usual attacking trio of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane set to return.

"That said, there was a fantastic save late on from Shaqiri, that was Ruddy tipping it onto the post, and it was an absolutely stunning save and they were inches from taking it to a replay and it did take a very good Neves goal to beat them".
