Fret had been described as Latin Trap music's first openly gay artist and his manager, Eduardo Rodriguez, said he was an "an artistic soul" who had a passion for music.

A rising star within the Latin music community has passed away at the age of 24.

Fret was shot eight times while riding a motorbike in the street. He was taken to the Medican Center of Rio Piedras, where he was later pronounced dead.

Fret's manager, Eduardo Rodriguez, confirmed the unfortunate news and said that people must unite in these hard times. This violence must stop.

"There are no words that describe the feeling we have and the pain that causes us to know that a person with so many dreams has to go".

He was best known for his 2018 hit "Soy Asi", and as a featured artist on Mike Duran's "Different".

"We must all unite in these hard times, and ask for much peace for our beloved Puerto Rico".

Fret's death brings the number of murders in Puerto Rico so far in 2019 to 22.

Fret, who spent time living in Miami, told magazine Paper past year: "I'm a person that doesn't care what anybody has to say..." An FBI official recently declared that the island is facing a "crisis of violence".
