Miley Cyrus has taken another unexpected step in her career, confirming the rumours that she was going to appear in season 5 of Black Mirror.

Miley's Black Mirror debut was filmed in South Africa and although she wasn't allowed to reveal any major plot points, she did tell Howard Stern that she plays a single character, but also "a lot of different sides of that character" which could mean a lot of things, really.

Cyrus's confirmation for Black Mirror comes after she admitted she has no desire to return to acting full-time. 'The minute I say I never want to do something again, all of a sudden, there I am'. "That's what FaceTime's for", Cyrus said. "I think the hardest thing for both of us right now is to go back", she said. "But I learned a lot about myself and I think I was able to use that and put that into it". However, they are all connected by their exploration of the unintended consequences of technology. Jodie Foster directed the episode "Arkangel" which appeared in the show's fourth season.

According to Bloomberg, the fifth season is expected to include an episode where viewers can chose their own storyline. She later stepped up as a full-on coach on the series, then released her sixth studio album, Younger Now, marking a turning point in her personal and professional life and a return to her roots. She also recorded a new version of John Lennon and Yoko Ono's "Happy XMas (War Is Over)" with their son, Sean Lennon.

"This song ... the way that it is so true to where we are right now and these lyrics of, 'What have we done?' Are we doing enough?"

Cyrus got candid with Stern in admitting that working on Black Mirror changed her entire outlook on her work, which she normally "hates" when looking back on it.

"So for right now, I am so content with where I am, being someone else doesn't sound that fun to me".

Cyrus and Mark Ronson will perform on SNL on Saturday, with Matt Damon hosting.
