Charlie Cox, the actor who plays Matt Murdoch for three seasons on the Netflix show, has finally spoken out about the show's cancellation a week after it was announced there would not be a fourth season of the critically-acclaimed show despite strong ratings and plenty of interest in Marvel properties.
When pressed for details on a potential Daredevil Season 4, Cox refused to elaborate for good reason.
"A lot of us really expected to keep going, and I certainly did", said Cox. "The truth is, I felt like we had a lot of stories to tell, and although I understand [the cancellation], I'm very saddened by that".
This was followed up by comments from a fan who spoke to actress Jessica Henwick at a convention, with the Iron Fist actress apparently stating that it was entirely the streaming service's decision to cancel the Marvel shows... It's just how business works. "But also, these characters mean a lot to people". From Cox's solemn quotes, it seems obvious he thinks it's the end.
Cox called playing the character a "dream job", mentioning how fun it was to inhabit the conflicted hero, and how much he enjoyed the stunts and fight choreography. "That's a weird feeling, because that character has been such a huge part of my life for the last four and a half years".
"I hate to be boring, but to be honest, I don't think I should answer that", Cox replied. It's been just the most incredible job for me.
Hopefully, Cox and his great cast of co-stars will get their chance to bring their characters to life once again. I was really excited about the ideas that were talked about for season four, and I think if I was to speculate about it and it went on the internet, it might not be very helpful to people. It's quite painful for quite a lot of people.
"Oh my God, yeah", he said. "I don't know how this would happen, but maybe one day we could pick up the baton and do it again." .
Disney has said that we haven't seen the last of the Devil of Hell's Kitchen.
