Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Films have released a brand new clip from James Wan's highly-anticipated superhero epic Aquaman, featuring Amber Heard's Mera trying to convince Arthur Curry that he should fight for his right for the King of Atlantis as the true heir to the throne.
It is only when Mera (Amber Heard) arrives and informs him that the upcoming battle may well decide the fate of the entire planet that he decides to do something about it.
DC Comics has unveiled the Aquaman movie-themed variant covers for the Justice League/Aquaman: Drowned Earth crossover event.
Tracking estimates show that Aquaman is expected to make $65 million for its U.S. opening later this month, beating Mary Poppins Returns and the Transformers spinoff Bumblebee, which open at the same time.
Wan's superstition is perhaps warranted in a Hollywood where franchises can crumble quickly, but for now Aquaman is looking more and more like a safe bet for Warner Bros. Pictures Group chairman Toby Emmerich has already kicked off talks for Aquaman 2, buoyed by the news that the film is expected to earn north of $65 million on its opening weekend later this month.
A low seven-figure salary is still fantastic, since women in comic book movies usually earn somewhere in the six-digit range on their first outing (although technically, Heard had a very small role in Justice League). For the sequel, Heard-and presumably Aquaman actor Jason Momoa-will see bigger paydays, according The Hollywood Reporter.
