Why It's Best the Game of Thrones Prequel Won't Have Old Cast

Kit Harington gives a hard pass to doing Game of Thrones spin-offs

Kit Harington on Possibly Returning for a ‘Game of Thrones’ Spinoff: “Not On Your Life”

"Not on your life", says the actor. The actor pointed out that he shot the original pilot almost a decade ago and that playing a character for that long is "really unusual in an actor's career".

In addition to his current role in Sam Shepard's True West, which is now running in London, Harington can be heard lending his voice in the upcoming How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, which will hit theatres in 2019. That's really unusual in an actor's career.

Vladimir Furdik, who plays the show's infamous Night King, has revealed that GoT's biggest and most costly battle ever will go down in the third episode - and that's only half way through season eight. "It was a huge, emotional upheaval leaving that family".

The interviewer then pressed: "What if [Harington] were asked to film a single scene, maybe as an ancestor of Jon Snow?".

Harington has been starring as Jon Snow since GOT premiered in 2011 and will take up the role one final time when the HBO drama's eighth season premieres in April 2019. He is now starring in the Sam Shepard play True West on stage in London.

While Harington may not be involved, HBO is now readying a pilot for a prequel set 5,000 years before the events of GOT. The series' unofficial title is The Long Night and it will star Naomi Watts and Josh Whitehouse.

The hugely popular HBO show, based on the author George RR Martin's epic fantasy novel series, is set to end in the New Year after a hugely successful nine-year run.

"Taking place thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones, the series chronicles the world's descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour", the show's description reads, via Entertainment Weekly.
