Drew, who had refused the interim coach label because he wanted a restructured deal, was named associate head coach in September 2016, a few months after then head coach Tyronn Lue received a five-year, $35 million deal following Cleveland's championship season.

Because of the team's lack of overall success over the years, Nikola Vucevic has flown under the radar as one of the most effective big men in the Conference.

Drew went 8-1 as fill-in coach last season while Lue was on a medical leave to deal with anxiety issues.

After picking up a much needed win on the road the previous night in San Antonio, Orlando was looking to keep it up at the Amway Center Monday evening when they faced the struggling Cleveland Cavaliers.

Now sporting a 1-9 record, the Cavaliers will look to win their second game when they return home for a Wednesday night contest against Oklahoma City. Drew promised to remain professional and do his job during the talks, and the 60-year-old kept his word. Drew said there was no discussion about anything beyond this season.

Fournier added three steals, including that critical one in the final seconds while the Cavaliers were trying to protect a one-point lead.

Smith made his understatement after leading Cleveland with 14 points in his return to the rotation. "We didn't handle it and that is why we lost the game".

Cavaliers: Home against Oklahoma City on Wednesday night. Clarkson, who has come off the bench for double figures in every game, scored his first eight points in a span of 71 seconds. The Magic played their third game in four nights, including wins on consecutive nights.
