The playoff picture cleared up after a weekend where several contenders asserted themselves. LSU, which was shut out at home by Alabama and now has two losses on the season, fell just a handful of spots to seventh, while Washington State came in just ahead of the Mountaineers at No. 8. No. 8 Ohio State is a 3.5-point favorite at No. 24 Michigan State, while No. 10 Washington State is a six-point favorite, up 1.5 from the opening line, for its trip to Colorado. It has a strong defense, but offensively, it's limited at best.
Alabama entered the week as the unquestioned No. 1 team in the country, followed by Clemson.
Jake Fromm played well again, but the running back duo of D'Andre Swift and Elijah Holyfield (combined 271 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns) carried the load in Georgia's big road win against Kentucky. Alabama hosts Auburn on November 24.
MSU was No. 18 in the first edition of the rankings last week.
6, is the highest ranked Big 12 team, while Texas is 19th and Iowa State 22nd.
Prediction: Not one of the nine playoff-contending teams will lose in Week 11, meaning, obviously, we'll have nine playoff-contending teams with two regular-season weeks remaining. The Big Ten went to a nine-game conference schedule in 2016, joining the Big 12 and Pac-12, meaning more opportunities for those teams to pick each other off.
While both MI and Georgia have 3-1 records against ranked teams this season, the maize and blue have gotten their wins in the last three weeks and looked good against Penn State with their only loss being to the team ahead of them.
All those ranked teams losing propelled a few teams to new heights in the Top 25.
"This team has got to be mentally tough", Oregeron said. The Bulldogs are Crimson Tide were responsible for the only two Week 10 eliminations. Now if they lost twice. yeah, that's probably not happening. In fact, we put the Irish in our poll at No. 7 behind Georgia, Oklahoma and West Virginia.
Finally, according to the Sagarin ratings, West Virginia has played the 45th most-difficult schedule in the country. Notre Dame moved up to third after the team improved to 9-0 following a hard-fought win over Northwestern. If Clemson and Notre Dame are unbeaten, it's possible that MI would get left out. Even one it beat. Remember Michigan still plays Ohio State in the last regular-season game.
LSU's loss was Michigan's gain. During the past two games, Clemson has outscored its opponents 136-26 and should easily win out, setting up a possible playoff rematch against Alabama for the fourth consecutive season. Figure the ones with conference championships will have the edge. However, the Buckeyes should be in a position to get into the Playoff if they can win out.
