Pacific Rim, Altered Carbon anime projects will stream on Netflix

Global streaming giant Netflix has unveiled five anime shows as exclusive original series and features.

Altered Carbon is an anime feature, set in the same universe of the Netflix live-action sci-fi series, now in production on Season 2 at Skydance Television.

As for Altered Carbon, production on season two is thought to be underway with estimations of a late 2019 release date.

Cagaster of an Insect Cage is a manga-based series that follows the struggle of a young couple trying to stay alive.

The Pacific Rim anime series from Netflix will "expand upon the story of the first two live action movies and follow two siblings - an idealistic teenage boy and his naïve younger sister - who are forced to pilot an abandoned Jaeger across a hostile landscape in a desperate attempt to find their missing parents". The series is by The Boondocks and Cannon Busters writer LeSean Thomas.

In addition to the Pacific Rim and Altered Carbon projects, Netflix also announced a slew of other titles.

The story's protagonist is based on the historical figure Yasuke, a samurai of African origin who served under Oda Nobunaga during Japan's Warring States period in the 16th century.

Following the success of Attack on Titan and the mother of all triumphs of the year, Castlevania, Netflix are injecting a tonne of investment into developing more anime.

Shifting ponds to Manila, Trese focuses on a tale of the Philippine underworld that is home to criminals and mythical beings who have infiltrated human society, as Alexandra Trese finds herself tangling with more malevolent creatures.

"Trese", based on the graphic novel of the same name created by Budjette Tan and Kajo Baldissimo, is among the anime series Netflix is rolling out soon, Taito Okiura, director of worldwide originals for anime, told reporters here.

The executive producer of the show is Jay Olivia who's previously worked on Wonder Woman and The Legend of Korra.
