The new format for the All-Star Game features two captains - the leading vote-getter from each conference - picking their team's playground style from the available pool of All-Stars.
The NBA and NBPA have agreed to televise the playground-style draft for the 2019 All-Star Game.
A firm date for the televised draft has not yet been established, but January 30 or January 31 have emerged as two potential targets for a TNT broadcast, according to the people, who were not authorized to discuss the plans publicly.
The league introduced the new All-Star format last season.
The league caught some flack last season for not televising the draft. LeBron James and Stephen Curry revealed their rosters on national television but would not specify the order in which players were selected.
James spoke with Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN.com after the report surfaced the draft would be televised and said last year's draft with Curry was "Fantasy basketball for us". I think everybody wants to see it. "It's All-Star Weekend. You got 24 of the best players in the world that's going to make the team".
James said the entertainment value would come down to who is chosen captains. "But it all depends how much the captains are going to get into it, as far as their draft boards".
The 2019 NBA All-Star Game will be held in Charlotte on Sunday, February 17.
