Traditionally, the royal festive fun is held at Sandringham, one of the Queen's official residences.

Harry's grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, memorably broke protocol previous year by inviting Meghan as the first fiancée to attend Christmas with the royal family before her wedding to Harry in May.

When the former Suits actress first became a part of the British monarchy with a fairytale ceremony on May 19, Markle's mom Doria was the only member of her family in attendance to watch her walk down the aisle and exchange her "I dos" with Prince Harry. Even sweeter than this news? Per reports, the Queen has made a decision to break with tradition to invite the matriarch to join their gathering as a "mark of respect" for the newest member of the royal family, and if true, it's pretty heartwarming. Keep reading to see photos of Doria's encounters with the royals so far.

The invitation is believed to be a show of respect and also an acknowledgement that Markle has no other family in Britain.

Her relationship with the royals marks a strong contrast to that with Meghan's dad, Thomas Markle.

Just days ago, Meghan Markle delivered a powerful speech about women's suffrage, and many are speculating whether the USA citizen practiced what she preached on Election Day Tuesday. In September she was present when Meghan Markle delivered her first solo speech as a royal. This means their children will grow up a bit differently from Prince William and Kate Middleton's kids, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, who are in the direct line of succession to the throne.

The House Of Windsor have previously arranged for the Duchess Of Cambridge's family to join them at church on Christmas morning but they did not stay at Sandringham.
