The show, which will be produced in conjunction with PopArt Music and Sony Music, will tour the world in 2019, although exact dates and venues have not been published.
"It feels both insane and incredible that Cirque du Soleil will create a show based on my life, my passion, my sport", said Leo Messi.
"Cirque du Soleil is a family favourite of ours".
The spectacle by the Montreal-based company will travel the globe - there are Cirque du Soleil shows in cities ranging from Las Vegas and Tokyo to London and New York City.
Messi is a five-time Ballon d'Or victor and has won four Champions Leagues with Barcelona, where he has spent his entire playing career.
"I have no doubt this show will amaze people as their shows always do". "As a world leader of live entertainment, Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group is becoming the go-to creator of original content and experiences for the world's top brands", says Jonathan Tétrault, President and Chief Operating Officer at Cirque du Soleil.
"We are convinced that bringing Messi's legacy to life on stage will touch audiences and speak to all football fans".
