Vladimir Putin Says Khabib Nurmagomedov Doesn't Deserve Harsh Punishment

Vladimir Putin meets Khabib Nurmagomedov and asks his dad not to punish him 'too severely' for post-fight brawl

Khabib Nurmagomedov is held back outside of the cage after fighting Conor McGregor in a lightweight title mixed martial arts bout at UFC 229 in Las Vegas on October 6. Once that happened, there was a melee outside the cage, and another started inside the cage when McGregor swung at one of Nurmagomedov's team members, and multiple Nurmagomedov teammates came in and attacked McGregor. In fact, the father and son met Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday in Ulyanovsk, Russia, who weighed in his thoughts on the whole incident.

Nurmagomedov retained his lightweight title with the win over the former two-division champion, who was returning to MMA after almost two years with just a boxing match with Floyd Mayweather in between.

"I will ask your father not to punish you too strictly because you achieved the main task, worthily and convincingly", Putin told the duo (via RT).

The president added that "not just you, but all of us can jump out like that if assaulted".

The Nevada Athletic Commission could fine and suspend McGregor and Nurmagomedov for their actions on Saturday but UFC president Dana White has not ruled out a rematch, which would be sure to pull in huge revenues.
