Brooks Koepka, this year's US Open and PGA Championship victor, was announced Tuesday as the US PGA Tour Player of the Year, having won a vote by tour players. He won the PGA Championship at Bellerive by two shots over Tiger Woods to become the fifth player to win the U.S. Open and PGA Championship in the same year.
The PGA Tour Player of the Year is decided by a polling of PGA Tour players.
Brooks Koepka was the decisive victor of the PGA Tour Player of the Year award for the 2017-18 season.
"Brooks has brought a new brand of athleticism to the PGA Tour, and we saw the results this year with his historic season at the major championships and a top-10 finish in the FedExCup", PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan said in a statement. "These feats were accomplished despite missing significant time due to injury, a testament to his work ethic and perseverance throughout the season".
With his victory at the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills, Koepka became the first player since Curtis Strange in 1989 to win consecutive U.S. Open titles. But that did not hinder his success or hamper his play later in the season.
