It was expected that Drew Brees would pass Peyton Manning for the all-time passing yards record on Monday night in New Orleans, but the way that it happened was pretty special.

Manning went ahead and congratulated Brees on breaking his passing touchdowns record, too - as he's well on pace to accomplish that feat before he retires. As the Superdome crowd gave Brees a standing ovation, he removed his helmet and hugged his wife Brittany and their four children. "I've got to tell you, it's been the greatest 1,000 days of my life", Manning said while slicing tomatoes. Brees also led the National Football League a year ago in completions (386) and yards per attempt (8.1), and while his passing yardage and touchdowns were down from previous seasons, that reflected in large part the fact that his Saints were unusually effective in 2017 on defense and at running the ball. In the press box, the Superdome catering staff served "beefy mac", a meal of macaroni with ground beef that has always been one of Brees' traditional meals on the night before games. But Brees also would have to outpace New England's Tom Brady, who has 500 TD passes, the only active player with more than Brees in that category. Brees now has 1545 yards and 10 touchdowns this season.

"You've ruined that for me". However, Saints coach Sean Peyton took a chance on the 6'0ft quarterback and the tandem eventually won a Super Bowl, ironically against Peyton Manning's Indianapolis Colts.

The game featured other touches meant to honour Brees.
