Hands On With Amazon's New Echo Dot, Plus, Input, and More

The Most Important Hardware Announcements From Today's Amazon Event

Skype support coming to Alexa later this year

There's a single six-inch woofer at work inside a sealed chamber within the Echo Sub compared to the four-inch sub inside the HomePod and dual 4.5-inch woofers inside the Google Home Max. What didn't come as a surprise at all, however, is the fact that most of the new devices Amazon unveiled on Thursday are already available for preorder. The e-tailer has revamped most of its existing Echo lineup and announced a bevy of automation devices: the Echo Auto for cars, the Fire TV Recast set-top box, an Echo subwoofer, a voice-controlled Smart Plug, the Stick Up Cam Wired security camera, and (drum roll, please) an AmazonBasics Microwave with Alexa built in.

Amazon is pushing Alexa more deeply into customers' lives.

At the event, Amazon also announced a new device with which it wants to step out of your living rooms and into your cars - the Echo Auto. This one's got a bit of fabric around its edges and it's not quite so flat in design as its predecessor. Amazon says it also integrated the Dash service into the microwave, so if you run low on popcorn, for example, it's easy to restock.

Then comes the Echo Link network streamer (US$199) that gives us an analogue output of the twin RCA variety for direct connection to an amplifier and - crucially - TOSLINK and coaxial digital audio outputs for connection to a suitably-equipped DAC. "As we imagine a future that has thousands of these devices in your home, this is going to become absolutely essential".

This microwave works with Alexa, so you'll be able to tell your Echo device to warm up a nice bowl of beans if you do so please. This camera monitors indoor and outdoor areas in 1080p HD. Amazon is determined to get Alexa into every corner of your home. This microwave can be found sold by Amazon for approximately $60 Dollars. There are two versions, both will be shipped November 14th: 2 tuners/500GB for $230, or 4 tuners/1TB for $280, both are up straight from Amazon right now.

The simplest item on the list is a plug that plugs in to your wall outlet.

Both devices, the Echo Dot and Echo Plus, keep their previous price tags-$49.99 and $149.99, respectively-and will ship on October 11.

This product does exactly what the name suggests - it is a plug that's compatible with Alexa.
