Embattled former Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun on Friday explained why she resigned her position in President Muhammadu Buhari's cabinet after mounting pressure.

According to our source, the resignation followed the allegation of not serving the compulsory National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, and obtaining a certificate that the NYSC have disowned.

Adeosun bowed out today after an allegation by the online newspaper, Premium Times, that she presented a fake NYSC exemption certificate as part of the requirements for clearance as a minister by the Senate. She got her first degree in Accounting from Ahmadu Bello University in 1981, after-which she proceeded to Ogun State University for her MBA.

However in a statement, she said she felt bound to resign after the investigation result became known.

The opposition party also stated that Buhari must be held responsible for all infractions in the finance ministry under Adeosun, as he appointed and retained her despite having information on the certificate forgery.

The 58-year-old is also a former Exective Secretary of the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI).

Also, she contributed to the floating of several multibillion-dollar Eurobond offerings and led Nigeria's discussions with multilateral institutions.

Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun has resigned from her position, 69 days after her certificate scandal.

"Our investigations reveal that the Federal Government, which earlier made efforts to defend Mrs. Adeosun, has already perfected a plot to help her to evade prosecution following fears that she could open up on the huge corruption going on in the financial sector under the Buhari administration". Having never worked in NYSC, visited the premises, been privy to nor familiar with their operations, I had no reason to suspect that the certificate was anything but genuine.
