Bushfire threatening homes on NSW south coast to 'burn for days'

NSW Bushfires In Ulladulla, Nowra

Australia fires: Emergency warning issued as HUGE bushfire hits Bega Valley and Ulladulla

"Although there's no threat to properties, we do have fire crews working with local residents and landowners to deal with the fires as they approach", NSW Rural Fire Service spokesman Chris Garlick told AAP.

Further north, a fire is burning out of control between West Cambrewarra Road and the Princes Highway in North Nowra and threatening properties.

THREE teenage boys have been arrested and charged after allegedly trying to start a bushfire in the NSW Blue Mountains, west of Sydney, just hours after a total fire ban was enforced across the state.

Conditions are deteriorating with stronger than expected winds.

Two homes have been destroyed and another damaged as dozens of out-of-control winter bushfires continue to burn across NSW.

Blazes on the NSW south coast at Mount Kingiman and North Nowra, which threatened homes on Wednesday, have been downgraded amid cooler and calmer conditions but hundreds of firefighters remain on scene.

"The fire is still moving relatively quickly, with further crews mobilised from the Mid North Coast to assist in controlling the blaze".

On Wednesday, RFS Deputy Commissioner Rob Rogers said firefighters were anxious the milder conditions would not last long.

RFS Building Impact Assessment Teams confirmed one house was damaged in a separate bushfire at North Nowra, where one outbuilding was destroyed and another was damaged.

The Ulladulla Civic Centre has been established as an evacuation centre.

"Our advice - and the images show - it's close to urban areas there".

The NSW RFS said emergency alert messages had been sent to residents in the area, however, Kate Melzer, who lives in the danger zone, said she "had not been told anything".

The RFS said firefighters were taking advantage of easing conditions to conduct backburning.

Spot fires are also popping up ahead of the main fire front, sparking fears homes in Kings Point and southern Ulladulla could be at risk.

Fire crews had already been on high alert with warm and windy weather forecast across the state. Although the Clarence Valley fire at Bristol Arms Road is burning close to some properties, they are not now under threat.
