PM Modi focuses on development for all in I-Day speech

No Election Speech by Modi at Red Fort

Narendra Modi Says India Will Send a Manned Flight Into Space by 2022

India will send a manned flight into space by 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced Wednesday as part of India's independence day celebrations.

"While the country is brimming with self-confidence today, it is forging ahead with a new sense of commitment", he said.

A group of differently abled children were accompanied by an interpreter who translated the Prime Minister's speech and other announcements to them live.

Modi highlighted how the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government had the ability to take tough decisions and that a "change" was felt in the last four yeard because the priority has been "desh hit" (benefit of country) and not "dal hit" (benefit of a party).

The grand ambition and idealism that marked Modi's first Independence Day speech in 2014 was absent this time.

Modi said his government would launch from September 25 a previously announced medical insurance scheme, dubbed "Modicare", to give about 500 million poor people annual health cover of 500,000 rupees ($7,200) to treat serious illness.

After unfurling the national flag, the Prime Minister will address the nation.

PM Modi also mentions how IBC Code has been implemented to improve the financial health of banks. "The honest taxpayer of India has a major role in the progress of the nation. I want to provide quality life to my people".

"The country, land, air, sky, sea, government office, files and the process of decision-making are the same but in the last four years the country has been feeling the change". "We have to ensure social justice for all and create an India that is progressing rapidly", he said. He says: "The practice of Triple Talaq has caused great injustice among our Muslim 'daughters".' He further says that he will work to ensure the elimination of this practice. Our government has strived to table the bill in Parliament. "We are integral parts of forums whose doors were earlier closed to us", the Prime Minister said.

I am proud of the fact that three women judges in Supreme Court are delivering justice. He recalled former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's line "Kashmiriyat, Jamhooriyat, Insaniyat" (eclectic Kahmiri culture, democracy and humaneness) and said this was the only way forward. "Left Wing extremism-affected areas in the country have come down to 90 from 126". "We will always take decisions in the interests of our nation", said Prime Minister Modi.

In his 80-minute speech, Modi said the pace of building highways, electrifying villages and building toilets has increased since his landslide 2014 election win that devastated the main opposition Congress party.

Prime Minister Modi said the government fulfilled the promise to provide 50 per cent more than the cost of production for kharif crops to farmers and is on the way to achieve the target of doubling farm income by 2022.

PM Modi says that 1.5 times MSP for farmers was discussed and debated for a long time, but no one implemented it. A lot of people raise doubts about this. The address was partly a report card of the government's achievements in the past four-and-a-half years.

Modi said that India would be only the fourth country - after Russian Federation, the United States and China - to launch its own manned space mission.
