Liverpool's Mohamed Salah will compete with Barcelona's Lionel Messi and Juventus' Cristiano Ronaldo for UEFA's award for best Champions League forward, while his new teammate Alisson is up for the top goalkeeper award.

Real Madrid created history by winning the Champions League for a third successive time after beating Liverpool 3-1 in last season's final.

Real Madrid have already lost Ronaldo to Juventus this summer.

Manchester United's late transfer target Diego Godin is one of three players shortlisted for the award - won in 2017 by Paul Pogba - with the Atletico Madrid defender in the running against team-mate Antoine Griezmann, scorer of two goals in the final win over Marseille - who have Dimitri Payet nominated.

Goalkeepers: Alisson (Roma, now Liverpool), Gianluigi Buffon (Juventus, now Paris Saint-Germain), Keylor Navas (Real Madrid).

The nominees were selected by a jury of 32 coaches from last year's Champions League participants and 55 journalists chosen by the European Sports Media group.

The best defender is sure to be from Real with their trio of Marcelo, Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane the only names short-listed for the award.

The winners will be announced during the 2018-19 Champions League group stage draw in Monaco on August 30.
