Beilein, 65, should be out of the hospital within a few days and is expected to be fully recovered in time for the 2018-19 season.
MI assistant Saddi Washington will serve as the team's interim head coach during Beilein's absence, with assistants Luke Yaklich and DeAndre Haynes continuing their roles on the bench. Pagani said the procedure was created to improve blood flow to the heart.
"The operation went well, and we expect him to make a full recovery and be back to his usual activities within a few weeks", Dr. Pagani said in a press release.
The 65-year-old Beilein won't go on the team's trip to Spain from August 17 to 26.
The 2018-19 season will be Beilein's 12th at MI.
Beilein, who guided MI to the national championship game in April, underwent the scheduled operation Monday at UM's Samuel and Jean Frankel Cardiovascular Center.
"I feel grateful and blessed that this surgery was performed at the University of MI", said Beilein. "(My wife), Kathleen, and our family appreciate all of the world-class care that was provided for us.
"I am going to work very hard in my rehabilitation to be stronger than ever by the time practice begins for this upcoming season".
In 11 seasons at Michigan, Beilein has compiled a record of 248-143 and led the Wolverines to two appearances in the National Championship. He briefly emerged this offseason as a candidate for the Detroit Pistons' vacancy, but they ended up hiring Dwane Casey and Beilein stayed at MI.
