Top congressional Democrats wasted little time in criticizing what they called US concessions included in the deal made between President Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

While President Trump might be correct that his threat to rain "fire and fury" on the Korean Peninsula helped get Kim to the table (and perhaps persuaded Xi to cajole him there), the opportunity to convert that leverage into real denuclearization has been squandered.

Pyongyang also reaffirmed its commitment to the denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula, while the USA pledged to provide security guarantees.

It was the latest twist in the worldwide drama over the fate of the North's nuclear programme and a complete reversal by the Trump administration, which had previously said the exercises were important to defend an ally and not negotiable.

Rodman traveled to Singapore ahead of the summit, but Trump, who knows Rodman from his time on Celebrity Apprentice, said that Rodman is a "nice guy" but not invited to the meeting in an official capacity.

"The North Koreans did not come with anything new", Hayden said on CNN.

As talks continue, we can only hope that Trump realizes that any meaningful peace will have to address the human rights outrages that prop up his new negotiating partner.

Trump said Kim had also agreed informally to destroy his missile engine test sites.

The video was first presented to Kim and his entourage during yesterday's bilateral summit, though it was also shown to reporters when Trump held a press conference after the meeting was over.

"I showed it because I really want him to do something", Trump said.

He said Japan will negotiate for the release of the abductees directly with North Korea.

THE INTERNATIONAL community has welcomed the historic US-North Korea meeting as a milestone to "full denuclearisation" that will resolve tensions over the Korean Peninsula and open a path to global peace.

For human rights activist Park Yeonmi, who fled North Korea when she was 13, she remains suspicious about Kim Jong Un's pledges to toss out the country's nuclear ambitions. "The world will see a major change".

U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korea leader Kim Jong-un sign the agreement yesterday. Some experts were particularly concerned by Trump's use of the words "war games" and "provocative", which echo North Korean statements and could suggest that Trump is uncritically accepting Kim's point of view.

This is not the first time Trump has made references to Kim's weight.
