Vivo officially launches the Vivo NEX starting from ~RM2394

The Vivo Nex

The Vivo Nex

Well, the same smartphone is now available for purchase as Vivo Nex and Vivo Nex Ultimate. That fingerprint scanner is not visible on the phone's body, as it is placed underneath the phone's display. It's unknown what amount of RAM and storage it will come with but it's expected to have a price tag in the region of US$600.

The Vivo Nex also comes with in-display fingerprint reading abilities, which is hardly surprising considering that Vivo released the first phone with a sensor built into the screen only a few months ago.

Of course, a Snapdragon 845 chipset sits behind the wheel with 8GB of RAM and either 128GB or the whopping 256GB of internal storage.

Vivo's solution for the notch is certainly intriguing (and it looks really cool), but it remains to be seen if the retractable camera works seamlessly in day-to-day usage.

In the meantime, what are your thoughts on the Vivo NEX?

Vivo loves playing the "was here first" game, whether it's using Hi-Fi audio, having the thinnest profile, putting in 8 GB of RAM, or having an in-display fingerprint scanner.

Check out the full Vivo Nex specs and features here. They call it Ultra FullView Display and uses a 6.59-inch Super AMOLED panel with FHD+ (2316 x 1080px) resolution and a unique 19.3:9 ratio.

The vertical dual camera setup that lies on the posterior of the Vivo NEX includes an f/1.8 aperture 12-megapixel Sony IMX363 sensor that has a pixel size of 1.4um.

Vivo mounted the 8MP front-facing camera on a "micro-stepper motor" that lets it elevate very precisely. There's no notch or thick bezel along the top of the phone to house the selfie camera and other technology, such as the earpiece, with the company including three new pieces of tech instead. Vivo continues to pursue the ultimate AI photography technologies with AI Scene Recognition, AI HDR, AI Filters and AI Photo Composition. NEX also packs an Adreno 630 Graphic Processing Unit which is more powerful and energy efficient than its predecessor.

The concept phone Vivo announced MWC 2018 had a 98% screen-to-body ratio, and the Nex is a big step for forward to achieving that goal on a phone you can actually buy. The Nex's battery measures in at 4000mAh, and there is a 3.5mm headphone jack, too.

Based on the launch, the Vivo NEX that is equipped with the Snapdragon 710 chipset will be priced at RMB3839 (~RM2394) while the Vivo NEX equipped with the Snapdragon 845 will be priced at RMB4498 (~RM2805) and RMB4998 (~RM3117) for the 128GB variant and 256GB variant respectively.

The device is available for pre-orders from tomorrow (13 June) and will be available in stores from June 23 in China.
