Raccoon captivates internet with Minnesota skyscraper climb

Right now in Minnesota, a humble raccoon has taken on a lofty challenge: it's scaling a skyscraper, and we're all really anxious about it. Around 12:30 p.m., Pioneer Press reporter Tad Vezner captured a couple of shots of the raccoon apparently taking a nap on the other side of the window.

Then it started to climb.

The furry critter's ascent up the UBS Tower, as it clung only to the building's rough exterior more than 20 stories above the ground, started to stress people out on Twitter.

Yes, because this is 2018 there was a Twitter stream dedicated to a racoon who climbed the building and people were actually watching it.

The windows of the UBS Tower don't open, so at this point animal control authorities hope it keeps going to the roof where it can be rescued in a live trap, according to WCCO.

The account also tweeted: "Oh great ..." "We're working with staff & building owner to find a way to help #MPRraccoon without further endangering it or staff by scaring or making it feel threatened".

It brought an end to a day of drama as people around the world anxious that the basketball-sized raccoon would lose its grip as it climbed or slip off a window ledge hundreds of feet above the light rail tracks running down Cedar Street in St. Paul.

Concerned that the raccoon had become trapped, Twitter users called for a host of inventive solutions, including sending up a hot air balloon to take the raccoon to safety.
