He says suicide is the second leading cause of death for teens, but the rate is even higher for middle aged and elderly individuals. Numbers increased across all demographics, including race, age, gender and ethnicity.
The council's resolution is created to raise awareness in Glen Rock and help remove the stigma, fear and misunderstanding about mental illness and thereby encourage treatment by ensuring that those persons in Glen Rock who confront metal health issues know that they are not alone.
Over the next 18 months, the state will be assisting more than 2,500 mentally ill people now living in nursing homes. "This isn't someone else's problem, it's up to all of us to come together and talk about it", said Glenn Most, PsyD, executive director of West Pines Behavioral Health.
The resolution further states that seeking mental health treatment is not a sign of weakness but a sign of strength, and that by seeking treatment you can recover and live longer, healthier lives. Mental illness can slow us down, but we don't need to let it stop us. "Help is available", the World Health Organization said.
