"You aren't a big fan of doing press and talk shows, so thank you for being here", Ellen told her spouse of almost 10 years.
De Rossi, 45, said on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" Wednesday that as she was approaching her most recent birthday in January, she felt that she was "aging out" as an actress.
This might come as a surprise to some, especially considering that the trailer for Arrested Development season 5 features de Rossi reprising her role as Lindsay Bluth, which is good news for fans of the show.
"She actually quit acting", Ellen said. Shonda Rhimes wrote me off Scandal, it was fine. He seemed really understanding and he totally got it. We had a really great conversation and then he wrote me into five episodes.
So after Season 5 debuts on Netflix on May 29, de Rossi will be officially done with scripts and early call times.
Portia is now focusing on developing her new business, an art venture named General Public, in which she collaborates with artists to create their original works as Synographs, or textured prints, and sells them online direct to consumers.
"I kind of knew what acting would look like for me for the next 10, 20 years, so I made a decision to quit and start a business", she said. "I don't want to regret not trying something". She thanked her longtime love for her support.
You can see the interview between her and Ellen below. A year ago as the #MeToo movement blew up, she wrote on Twitter that Steven Seagal exposed himself to her during an audition for one of his films; de Rossi's declaration prompted another woman to come forward with an accusation about Seagal. They're also really big about giving back - they're now working on building an Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund in Rwanda, which they are raising $10 million to complete.
