T.I. has since bonded out. The police department told WSB-TV that T.I., legally named Clifford Harris Jr., didn't have his key to enter, and a security guard reportedly refused to let him in.
Harris was returning to his home at around 4 a.m. when the incident occurred, WSB reported. He claims the guard was asleep when his client arrived at the guardhouse and it took "some time to wake up the sleeping guard". Henry County police were then called to arrest the pair.
T.I was arrested early Wednesday morning for disorderly conduct and public drunkenness after getting into an argument with a security guard outside of his gated community, as Atlanta's Channel 2 News reported. He says it was a "very heated debate", but nothing ever became physical. "Tip clearly identified himself and sought entry", his attorney Steve Sadow wrote on Facebook.
However, the website said the rapper was eventually allowed into his gated community after an initial argument with the guard. "The guard refused entry".
According to officials, the unidentified friend had an outstanding warrant and was placed under arrest. Tip was in contact with Tiny' by phone and "Tiny" confirmed that Tip should be let in immediately.
As for the assault charge, T.I. says he "may have been hurt by my words", but says he never laid a hand on the guy. The guard continued to refuse entry without justification.
T.I. has since spoken out on his arrest, telling The Blast that he believes the charges were racially motivated as local law enforcement are "white cops in a very white area". "When the police arrived, they were not interested in hearing Tip's side of the story and wrongfully chose to end the situation by arresting Tip".
T.I.'s wife, R&B singer and songwriter Tameka "Tiny" Harris owns a home in the Eagles's Landing Country Club community that she bought in 2014.
