Nigeria Announce Provisional World Cup Squad

Super Eagles and Bursaspor defender, Shehu Abdullahi has expressed his excitement over his inclusion in a 30-man preliminary World Cup squad released by Nigeria coach, Gernot Rohr on Monday.

He had said, "The surprises can only come if some players are doing so well and we have to take them, it will be wonderful to see some surprises".

Others in the list released yesterday by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) are goalkeepers Ikechukwu Ezenwa (Enyimba FC), Francis Uzoho (Deportivo La Coruna, Spain), Daniel Akpeyi (Chippa United, South Africa), and Dele Ajiboye (Plateau United).

"World Cup is a dream of every football player, I'm no exception. In the first 35-man list, they have a chance".

Chelsea wingback Moses was Nigeria's top scorer in the qualifying campaign with three goals, while Captain Mikel Obi, Iwobi, Simon and Iheanacho weighed in with two goals each.

The defence has Turkey-based Kenneth Omeruo, William Troost-Ekong and Shehu Abdullahi while Cercle Brugge's 30-year-old Elderson Echiejile, Leon Balogun, Ola Aina, Tyronne Ebuehi, and Nantes centre-back Chidozie Awaziem also made the cut.

Surprise invitee Lokosa now leads the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) goalscorers chat with 18 goals, recording his most recent goals in Kano Pillar's 3-1 victory over Kaduna United on Sunday.

The Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup finals is scheduled to kick off on June 14 and end on July 15.
