Police in Asheville, N.C. say they were called to the three-time Emmy winner's home shortly before 8 a.m. Monday morning, where they found his body.
Mr. Anderson was best known as Judge Harry Stone, presiding judge at an overnight court, presiding over small-time cases and a cast of crazies.
Asheville Police told the station that no foul play was suspected in his death. The Newport, Rhode Island-born actor also made multiple appearances on "Saturday Night Live".
In his later years, Anderson kept a low profile, only occasionally appearing in shows like "30 Rock", "Son of the Beach" and "Comedy Bang!"
He is survived by wife Elizabeth Morgan and his two children.
