According to the report, police were called to investigate a vehicle that had been left running in the parking lot of an apartment complex for more than an hour. Finch allegedly swung at officers and ran through an apartment complex before officers finally wrestled Finch to the ground and handcuffed him.
Police made contact with the man in the vehicle and smelled marijuana, according to a police report. Oklahoma County Jail records indicate 26-year-old Roy Finch was arrested Sunday for assault on a police officer, possession of marijuana and other charges.
Police reported that when officers tried to arrest him, another fight was started. Officers found Finch, and a second altercation ensued, according to police.
Finch was eventually placed into custody after police officers used drive stuns on him. More officers arrived to help make the arrest, all the while police say Finch continued to fight and resist.
A mugshot published by the Oklahoman showed Finch with bad bruises along the right side of his face.
Finch was booked on two complaints of assault and battery on a police officer, one complaint of resisting arrest and one complaint of marijuana possession.
Police officials said one officer suffered minor injuries during the incident.
Finch, who has a home in Oklahoma City, was a running back for the University of Oklahoma from 2010 to 2013. He also returned one kickoff for a score.
Finch is now listed as a running back on the roster of the Calgary Stampeders, a team in the Canadian Football League.
