Colorado teachers joined others across the country in demanding more education funding and higher teacher pay on Monday. A spokesperson for the school district said the school did not initiate the police report and that they can not stop a teacher from filing one. In November's mid-term elections, 36 governorships and thousands of state legislative seats will be up for grabs.
The Oklahoma walkout demonstrated the power of collective action to influence Republican lawmakers, as well as its limits.
Educators from around the state marched on the capital, as more than 30 districts in the state closed, inlcuding West Point Independent and Meade and Bullitt county schools.
It is no coincidence that the states in which teachers are striking have seen some of the nation's largest budget cuts to education in recent years.

"We teachers started this movement, so we will be the ones to end it", said Alberto Morejon, a Stillwater teacher who authors a walkout Facebook page with almost 80,000 members. "You have lifted these teachers spirits up to where you would not believe".

"Because of the members of the Oklahoma Education Association and the overwhelming support of the public, we were able to secure $479 million in education funding for next school year".
