Four driving under the influence of alcohol arrests topped a three-day St. Patrick's Day DUI and seat belt enforcement campaign staged by the Lake County Sheriff's Office.
On St. Patrick's Day or any day, people consuming alcohol in Rochester can use taxis, vehicle services such as Uber or Lyft, a designated driver, or walk to get home safely instead of driving while intoxicated or buzzed.
Every year, there is a spike in drunk driving on St. Patrick's Day, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
In Delaware, from 2012 to 2016, there were 62 arrests and 31 crashes resulting in 27 injuries during the holiday period. This weekend was expected to have a high number of DUIs particularly because the holiday fell on a Saturday this year, and police had extra patrols searching for DUI offenders.
