Eight arrested for failing to prevent Jerusalem stabbing attack

"Shomron resident Adiel Coleman HY" D, a resident of Kochav HaShachar, was identified as the victim of the stabbing attack on HaGai Street in Jerusalem's Old City at about 4:45PM on Sunday, 3 Nissan.

The police investigation revealed that the eight suspects, the youngest of whom is 15 and the oldest 67, were on the same street in the Old City during the murderous attack, but chose to ignore it. Failing to prevent a crime is itself a misdemeanor, according to Israeli law.

Two of the suspects were released following police investigations, and the remaining six are due to appear in court later Tuesday.

Israeli forces on Monday made assessments of the home of the Palestinian assailant who fatally stabbed Kollman ahead of its expected demolition.

Faddal was shot dead by an Israeli police officer at the scene of the attack at Lion's Gate, one of the seven open gates in Jerusalem's Old City. Such permits are granted when the defense and intelligence services do not believe the individual poses a security risk.

There has been an uptick in Israeli-Palestinian violence since President Donald Trump recognised Jerusalem as Israel's capital late past year.
