FandangoNOW joins Movies Anywhere digital movie platform

Last October, Movies Anywhere launched as a way to simplify everyone's digital movie libraries by combining your iTunes, Google Play, Prime Video, and Vudu purchases under one single app.

Movies Anywhere allows users to buy, redeem, and store digital films from five major studios and then sync those titles across multiple retailer apps and playback devices.

Under the deal, FandangoNow customers can use the Movies Anywhere app and website to access eligible purchases of movies from Walt Disney Studios - encompassing Disney, Pixar, Marvel Studios and Lucasfilm - 20th Century Fox Film, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Universal Pictures (including DreamWorks and Illumination Entertainment) and Warner Bros.

Today, coinciding with the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi to digital, Movies Anywhere and FandangoNOW announced a partnership to share consumer digital movie libraries.

"We are thrilled to welcome FandangoNOW, a go-to online destination for movie fans, as our newest digital retailer", said Karin Gilford, General Manager, Movies Anywhere. "The popularity of Movies Anywhere is largely due to the extraordinary content, including exclusives and promotions, and the support provided through our growing list of online digital retailers".

"At Fandango, we aim to deliver the best movie experience anytime and anywhere, throughout a movie's entire life cycle - from theatrical to home entertainment and beyond", said Fandango CMO, Adam Rockmore. Disney in 2014 launched a predecessor service, Disney Movies Anywhere, which served as a digital locker for Disney, Pixar, and Marvel movies.

Movies Anywhere is a Disney-owned entity, but - according to Disney - operates independently with input from an advisory committee comprising members from each of the participating studios. With the addition of the Disney/Lucasfilm blockbuster, Movies Anywhere has added new profile-picture options for consumers who purchase "Star Wars: The Last Jedi": the Rebel Alliance Starbird, a Stormtrooper or the First Order emblem. And beyond the new addition of FandangoNOW, customers can also link to their VUDU, Amazon Video, iTunes, and Google Play accounts - letting users access all their supported content on the service and device of their choosing. Movies Anywhere offers a library of almost 7,500 digital movies, including new releases, and will continue to expand the consumer experience as more content providers, digital retailers and platforms are added.
