A 16-year-old girl was stabbed to death Wednesday at a Dunkin' Donuts in New Rochelle, police said.
Police tell The Journal News Valeree Schwab was with another teenage boy when the two got into a fight with a group of at least six teenagers inside the coffee shop across from Iona College Wednesday afternoon. The group then fled the scene, and the victim was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center.
The City School District of New Rochelle issued a statement amid the tragedy and beefed up security at New Rochelle High School.
Brown, 16, of Yonkers, had been sought by police, who called on the public to help find her.
The New Rochelle High School student was reportedly stabbed during an argument with another female teen just after 12 p.m.at the Dunkin' Donuts on North Avenue.
It is not known what the fight was about, but the victim is believed to have used or attempted to use pepper spray at some point, Schaller said.
Police said the Westchester district attorney will ultimately decide what charges Brown will be arraigned on later Thursday. Information on her lawyer wasn't immediately available.
"Our hearts go out to all who have been touched by this tragic occurrence", said a statement from the New Rochelle school district. "Thank you to those who brought the matter to our attention", the school stated online.
Osborn also says Schwab was absent from school the day of her death.
Police say they also investigated a rumored threat against the school related to the stabbing, but have minimized its importance.
