A auto bombing in the southern Lebanon port city of Sidon on Sunday reportedly targeted the brother of the top representative of the Islamist Hamas group in the country, the Lebanese army said.
Military and medical sources told AFP that a Hamas official was wounded, while Al Arabiya reported that Abu Hamza Hamdan was killed in the attack.
Initial reports said Hamdan was a Hamas official.
The burnt-out vehicle was seen afterwards in a auto park.
A medical source at the scene said Hamdan, also known as Abu Hamza, suffered serious wounds to his legs while opening the door to his vehicle, and was transported to hospital.
A Hamas official in Lebanon, Ali Barakeh, said Osama Hamdan is in Beruit and was not involved in the incident.
The Lebanese Army also released a statement soon after the bombing, confirming that an explosion had targeted Hamdan as he was entering his auto.
