Even before Coutinho's transfer to Barcelona, the match between Liverpool and City was always going to be one of the most eagerly awaited of the season.

I think City have done a great deal to convince everyone that they can defend over the last few months but the doubts I had at the start of the season were fully exposed by Liverpool during the early blows of that game.

But while Klopp stressed all of the funds from Coutinho's British record deal would be made available to him, he would not rush into signing a replacement. "Having a player of his quality and bringing him out there [to play], but his head is already away, and then he plays at 40 percent, gets injured or not, it's a hard situation for the whole squad".

"When they've lost one opportunity, you will never get the same player again".

Klopp maintains the club did everything in their power to keep hold of Coutinho, but the midfielder was intent on sealing his dream move to Barcelona.

It's interesting to play against them.

Asked about reports the player, who has only just returned to fitness having not featured since December 7, could leave the Reds boss added: "That is part of the transfer window so I have nothing to say about it".

"We have no money issues at this club. The owners are completely on my side", he continued. We played against each other a couple of times and he's a fantastic player. Always they were a good and stable team.

Liverpool now have money to spend and a number of players have been linked with the club in recent days as a result.

The Citizens make the short trip to Merseyside while possessing an 18-point buffer over the Reds in the league, who now sit fourth, and a 15-point advantage over second-place Manchester United. That's not how it will be.

Klopp no longer has a "Fab Four" but his three remaining big hitters - Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane - will ensure the Reds can threaten to derail the leaders.

"We don't play "hero football". I try to do my best to help the team win. "We already did put responsibility on different shoulders [other than Coutinho's]".

Their No. 9 is now contracted until the summer of 2020, but Liverpool wants to make sure that, if they have to lose Firmino at any point, then they will be able to command the highest fee possible due to having complete security on the contract front.

Speaking on Coutinho's transfer, Chamberlain said, "I haven't really even thought about Phil leaving", Oxlade-Chamberlain said, according to Sky Sports. "But that won't happen".
